Glaze Resist Card

Hi friends.  Today's creation is a birthday card for a good friend.  I tried a new technique with Glaze resist and Distress Inks.  I used the Faber Castell glaze over the Memory Box butterfly stencil to create the resist.  Then I used 3 colors of Distress Inks to color the background.  I added some Perfect Pearls mist to add a bit of glimmer.  For the sentiment, I stamped Birthday on a strip of white cardstock with Versamark ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder, then colored the strip with the same ink colors as the background.  I diecut the word Happy and attached it to the top of the strip.  The butterfly vine was cut with an SSS die, colored with Distress Ink, glazed a bit with Versamark + Kaleidoscope embossing powder, then attached to the card front, with the sentiment on top.  The 2 small butterflies are from the same die, I just left them white.  The entire panel was attached to a white card base with craft foam.  I hope she'll like it.  Thanks for taking a look.  Have a great Leap Day!

Art Journal Page - Inspired by a Song

Hi friends.  Today's art journal page is inspired by a song from one of my favorite Christian artists, Francesca Battistelli.  The song is "Free to be Me", and part of the chorus has the lyrics "...Got a couple rips in my jeans..."  I have this old pair of jeans that were my daughter's, and I love the butterfly accents and gems on them.  I have always wanted to use them on a craft project & this seemed like the perfect opportunity.  The art journal is prepped with gesso, then layered with Viva Decor 3-D Stamp Paint in the colors inspired by the decorations on the jeans:  Rose, Light Blue, and Gold.  I used the Tim Holtz mixed media die to cut stencils and used both embossing paste and glass bead glitter gel, colored with the same paints, to stencil the decorations randomly on the background.  I randomly stamped some floral designs in the background using both gesso and Memento Summer Sky ink.  I cut the smaller of the butterflies from the jeans and glued it to the background with Glossy Accents.  I cut the butterfly tail and the flower pieces from the gem portions of the jeans and attached them with Glossy Accents, as well.  I made sure to tear the floral pieces to have a bit of "rips in my jeans".  I stamped the Become stamp using Memento Rich Cocoa ink.  The title tiles were colored with a wash using the rose stamp paint, and I added the "Embrace Imperfection" words - to reflect another part of the lyrics - "But perfection is my enemy".  Thanks for taking a peek.  Have a great day!

Shaker Birthday Card

Today's card is a shaker birthday card using stamp / die sets from The Stamps of Life.  I used some older papers / buttons from Fancy Pants Designs, called It's Your Day.  I stamped the cone design on the paper & cut it with the matching die.  The ice cream shaker was die cut with the coordinating die & the shaker portion was simply cut with a circle die. The circles in the background paper were outlined with a glimmer pen.  The cone was mounted with craft foam, and the card was finished with a spatter of buttons and gems.  The sentiment was cut with and IO die set.  Thanks for looking.

Heartfelt Birthday

My daughter's birthday was last week - here's the card that I gave her.  It's a double diamond fold card made with Heartfelt Creations products and Viva Decor paints.  All items were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, diecut with matching Heartfelt dies, then painted with various colors of 3-D Stamp Paint. All flowers and leaves were shaped with McGill  flower shaping tools.  Gems were colored with Copic markers and added to the flower centers.  I think she really liked it!

Altered Disc Box

Anybody remember those little AOL boxes that were used to send promotional discs - they are small & kind of magnetic on the edge?  The SSS Monday Challenge is to Recycle/Upcycle, so I finally used this disc box that I've been saving forever, for some reason.  This is the cover for a mini-album that will contain pictures of things I love about my husband.  I really like the way it turned out.  Hard to believe that it was originally bright orange, black, and white.  (I wish I had thought to snap a pic before I altered it.)  The base was covered with torn strips of Prima papers, then colored with Distress Paints and Glimmer Mist.  I used embossing paste (colored with the same Distress Paints) and a Tim Holtz stencil to add some texture to the corners.  The "Documented" center in the metal frame was covered with AllNight Media Liquid Embossing – Antique Glass Finish.  I painted the dragonflies with Black Soot and added some clear gems colored with Copic markers.  It was finished off with the black ribbon & metal tag.  Thanks for taking a look.

Supplies Used - some of the supplies used in this project can be found at the links below.  Others (ribbon, frame, gems, etc.) are misc. craft items from my stash.

SSS Wednesday Challenge Blog - One Layer - Celebrate

This SSS challenge is a good one for me - One Layer - it's not something I would normally do.  But I thought I could give it a try.  Since I never seem to have enough masculine birthday cards, I thought I would create a simple masculine card, using a technique I've never tried.  I covered a kraft card base with Distress Walnut Stain ink, then misted water over the Tim Holtz Stripes stencil to create a grungy striped background.  Over that layer, I used the Tim Holtz Traveler stencil to randomly stamp words using Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.  To create a bit more dimension, I used Glass Bead Glitter Gel colored with Chipped Sapphire over a handmade stencil using the Tim Holtz Mixed Media die.  The front is finished with the word celebrate from the Tim Holtz Celebration words die - cut from a kraft paper mounted with craft foam.  Thanks for taking a look.
