Beautiful Butterflies

Here's another art journal page - my favorite so far.  I keep learning new things and it is so much fun.  For this page, I used gelatos in the background & napkin collage at the bottom. The picture makes the background look a bit choppier than it looks in real life - it's a it bit more blended and smooth than the pictue shows.  Guess I need to work on my picture taking skills.  LOL.  The collage has a bit of glitter dust added to make it sparkle.  I love doing napkin collage - it is always so beautiful. The butterflies are 2 stencils - the base stencil was done with embossing paste colored with ink, then the coordinating detail stencil was done with ink and a blending tool.  I love it.  Off to work on another page....

Happy Labor Day

Wow.  I can't believe it is September already.  Time goes by faster every year.

About a month or so ago, I got bit by the HSN craft bug.  lol.  One of the things that I picked up was the 3-D Papier Tole collection by Hot Off The Press.  Although not quite as much fun as making all my own flowers with Heartfelt Creations products, I did have a lot of fun assembling and creating some really pretty cards with this kit.  Here are some snapshots from the cards I made using the Garden of Posies set. I added a couple of doilies (with a dash of glimmer mist added) and some gemstones & I think they turned out quite nice.  I also tried another one of my HSN purchases on one of the cards - Epiphany Crafts Shape Studio Butterfly.  (I love butterflies, so you'll also see some Martha Stewart Crafts butterfly punches on these cards.)

Have a beautiful holiday!

Art Journaling 2

Here's another attempt at Art Journaling.  I have learned a few things:

  • Having never taken an art class since grade school, for me, art seems to be a bit of an experiment.  lol.  I am learning & enjoying the process.  I will keep trying to express myself in this way.
  • Some stencils are not meant to be used with embossing paste.  I love this Delicate Butterflies stencil from Memory Box  (http://memoryboxco.com/product_detail.asp?id=88561), but it didn't really seem to be the best thing to use with embossing paste.  I will have to try this with another medium.
  • I really do need to use gesso on my pages before I add my inks to the background.
  • I love my Dylusions art journal (http://rangerink.com/?product=dylusions-journal).  But, as Shari Carroll noted in her class,  I probably need to paste the pages together / skip pages, because even with the gesso, sometimes my inks bleed through to the next page.  I know that is OK for some people, but it kind of bothered me a bit.  (I need to let go of my perfectionism.)

Art Journalling 1

Hi.  Long time no posting.  Trying to get this blog started again.....

I attended the first Simon Says Create event this spring.  It was wonderful.  One of the things I have started trying is art journaling.  Shari Carroll did a great class in art journaling, but we didn't get to finish everything, so I finished it at home.  Here's a link to the start of what she was teaching...  http://www.pinterest.com/pin/76350156155500557/

Here's my take on it, since I didn't have all the products used in class. This is a log of fun - I think I'll keep doing this.   Let me know what you think....
